The Servant of the Lord
Behold My Servant. In Isaiah 42;1-4 we hear the words of God proclaiming the Servant of the Lord who was to come for the purpose of redemption and to establish an everlasting kingdom. The title Servant refers solely to the humanity that our God assumed at Bethlehem in the face and person of Jesus Christ, simply God manifest in flesh (John 1:14; I Timothy 3:16).
As we read Isaiah 42:1-13 in the context of the announcement of the Servant, it is easy to see the perfect and absolute unity of God and Christ.
Isaiah 42:8 I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.
Isaiah 42:12 Let them give glory unto the LORD, and declare his praise in the islands.13 The LORD shall go forth as a mighty man, he shall stir up jealousy like a man of war: he shall cry, yea, roar; he shall prevail against his enemies.
God again speaks of the Servant in Isaiah 52:13-15 and all of chapter 53 where He foretells the suffering of Christ. Immediately preceding this in Isaiah 52:6 God leaves no doubt as to the identity of the Servant.
Isaiah 52:6 Therefore my people shall know my name: therefore they shall know in that day that I am he that doth speak: behold, it is I.
Yes, we know His name, the name of the Lord., It is Jesus. It is the Father's name claimed by Jesus (John 5:43, 10:35, 12;28,14;13, 17:11). Jesus alone bears the glory that God said He would give to no other (Isaiah 42:8), thus He must be God.
Many Old Testament scriptures testify to the manifestation of God in Christ as Savior, Redeemer and King. Here we note a few with our emphasize added.
Isaiah 47:7 As for our REDEEMER the LORD of Host is His NAME, the Holy ONE of Israel.
Isaiah 43:3 For I am the LORD, thy God The Holy ONE of Israel, thy SAVIOUR.
Isaiah 44:6 Thus saith the LORD the KING of Israel, and his (Israel's) ) REDEEMER the LORD of hosts; I am the FIRST, and I am the LAST; and BESIDE ME THERE IS NO GOD.
Zechariah 9:9 ... thy KING cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation....
Psalms 24:10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the KING of glory.
Isaiah 25:9 And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God (Jesus); we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation.
Zechariah 13:6 And one shall say unto him (Jesus) , What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.
Isaiah 24:23 Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion (Jesus), and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.
Zechariah 14:3-4 ....Then shall the LORD go forth..... And his feet (Jesus) shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives.....
Isaiah 12:3-4 ...the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song... make mention that HIS NAME IS EXALTED.
Philippians 2 9-11 sums it all up.
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess that JESUS CHRIST IS LORD, TO THE GLORY OF GOD THE FATHER.
Jesus' prayer in the garden was that He had glorified the Father and manifested His name on earth. He prayed that we might behold the glory that was given Him before the foundations of the earth. His glorification and His death on Calvary was an accomplished fact in the mind of God in eternity past.
I am thankful for the humble Servant of the Lord who suffered and died for me to effect my salvation and my healing. He speaks softly and deals prudently. He loves and cares for me and is sensitive to my innermost feelings. Scripture shows Him to be no less than eternal God clothed in flesh, manifesting His name and His glory to us. I love Him, I magnify Him and I expect to see Him and Him alone upon the throne of heaven. I'm sure that you feel likewise.
The purpose of About-Him.Com is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ whom we preach as the Almighty God manifest in the flesh. It is our desire that everything presented on these pages increases your faith in our God and Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
