Proverbs 18:24 . A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

We all sing the old hymn, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and we find it to be so true. We also sing the less refined chorus, "Ain't Nobody Done Me Like Jesus, He's My Friend." The grammar may be faulty, but the sentiment couldn't be expressed better.

We all want to be liked and accepted. We all want to have friends. We have friends at work, neighborhood friends, and friends at church, etc. With some friends, we just don't talk about some things, such as politics or religion. Some friends take all that you have to give, but never give anything back. But, there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. His name is Jesus. He's with you from your first to last breath. He only wants the best for our life. So much so that He laid down His own life for us

John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

He places one condition on His friendship, He wants us to obey Him. Love is the best motive for obedience, and obedience is the best proof of our love to Him.

John 15:14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

Because we are His friends He shares the things of God with us. We have the right to ask of the Father in His name and expect to receive it.

John 15:15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

Throughout scripture, we see the love of Jesus demonstrated many times: Some pious professors of religion wanted Jesus to give His approval for them to stone a woman caught in the act of adultery. Rather than condemnation, He offered her forgiveness.

John 8:10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

He upset the religious establishment when He went to the house of Zackeus, who was considered to be a sinner.

Luke 19:7 And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That He was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.

He accepted the worship of a common prostitute.

Luke 7:39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.

He showed His humanity by weeping at the tomb of a friend. Even His enemies had to acknowledge how much he loved Lazarus.

John 11:35 Jesus wept.
36 Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!

He loved His disciples with a passion.

John 13:1 Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.

After His resurrection, He made a special overture to Peter who had denied Him.

Mark 16:7 But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.

Isaiah portrayed Him as a servant who would not quit until He saved every possible soul.

Isaiah 42:1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.
2 He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.
3 A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.
4 He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.

He laid down His life for sinners.

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

I Timothy 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

He loved us so much that He took on our nature so that we might be a partaker of His.

Hebrews 2:14 . Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.
17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.
18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

Jesus feels everything that we feel, and is presently interceding for us.

Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Hebrews 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

We all sometimes feel like we don't have a friend in the world. Of course this is an exaggeration, yet no one person can be a perfect friend. They can only be a friend according to how much they can identify with us and care for us. Jesus doesn't have these limitations, He loves us as we are. He'll take us as we are, wash us and clean us up, and dwell in us. The apostle Peter ask us to humble ourselves enough to accept God's love and to give Him our every care.

I Peter 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Jesus Issues an invitation to you.

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
