About-Him Devotional 12-01-01
Luke 12:20 But
God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee:
then whose shall those things be, which thou hast
provided?
We know the
story of this rich man, who had lost his perspective. He obviously was aware of
Moses and the prophets, but he wasn't concerned about what they had to say,
until he felt the flames of hell. He had forgotten:
Most of us
will never have the riches of this man, but in these times of economic
uncertainty, we can still lose our perspective.
It's
nice to have a 401K and something laid up for old age, but these will mean
nothing when we stand before Christ the righteous judge (2 Timothy
4:8).
Our
Creator loved us so much that He robed Himself in flesh and died for us at
Calvary. He has freely given us of His Spirit and made us partakers of His
divine nature (2 Peter 1:4). He has told us that He would return at
an hour when we think not (Matthew 24:48-51). The gospels talk extensively of
the Kingdom of God/heaven, which is our goal and our destiny. As we await the
day of His return, our prayer is:
Thy
kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give
us this day our daily bread (Matthew 6:10-11).

Old Dr.
Carver still made house calls. One afternoon he was called to the Tuttle house.
Mrs. Tuttle was in terrible pain.
The doctor came out of the bedroom a minute after he'd gone in and asked Mr. Tuttle, "Do you have a hammer?" A puzzled Mr. Tuttle went to the garage, and returned with a hammer. The doctor thanked him and went back into the bedroom. A moment later, he came out and asked, "Do you have a chisel?" Mr. Tuttle complied with the request. In the next ten minutes, Dr. Carver asked for and received a pair of pliers a screwdriver and a hacksaw. The last request got to Mr. Tuttle. He asked, "What are you doing to my wife?" "Not a thing," replied old Doc Carver. "I can't get my instrument bag open." Keep Looking Up! Don & Marie Spooner About Him!
