About-Him Devotional 08-11-01

John 6:27  Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

Jesus had just satified the physical hunger of 5000 men, plus woman and children.  He sensed that their physical hunger was much greater than their spiritual hunger.  Things haven't changed much in 2000 years, have they?

Jesus proclaimed Himself as the Bread of God (John 6:33), The Living Bread (John 6:51), The Bread of Life (John 6:48), He said that if we would eat of this bread and drink of His blood we would never hunger and never thirst. Moreover we would be assured of eternal life.

John 6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
John 6:54  Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

His body was broken on Calvary and he poured out His life's blood for us. If we will avail ourselves of His sacrifice, eternal life awaits us. Eternal life, fellowship and communion with Him. Our earthly concerns and carnal desires that cause us to lose sight of eternity, aren't much of a comparison to that, are they?

Keep Looking Up!
