About-Him Devotional 08-04-2001
Luke 4:32 And they were
astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power.
We often hear the TV commercial,
"When E.F. Hutton speaks, people listen." That may or may not be true, but when
Jesus spoke people took notice. The people mentioned in the verse above were
trying to kill Jesus, and yet they had to marvel at the power of His words. The
Lord said in Jerimiah 23:29 that His words were like fire and a hammer that
breaks rocks into pieces. Jesus said that His words were spirit and life (John
6:63).
People still listen when the words
coming from our mouths are words of life given with the utterance of the Spirit.
The apostle Paul said that he didn't speak with enticing words which would cause
us to put our faith in man, but that his words were given in the power and
demonstration of the Spirit (I Corinthians 2:4-5; I Thessalonians 1:5).
The verse below is a prophesy of
the Lord Jesus. May we earnestly seek the Lord that we also may have the tongue
of the learned to speak words of life to the weary person at the appropriate
time.
Isaiah 50:4 ¶ The Lord GOD hath
given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a
word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth
morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the
learned.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of
God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even
to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is
a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. In

"Now, Johnny, tell me frankly do you say prayers before eating?"
"No sir," little Johnny replies,
"I don't have to. My Mom is a good cook."
