Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O
Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
5 And thou shalt love the
LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy
might.
Try as we might, the love demanded
of us by this commandment is impossible to obtain through our human efforts.
Without a spiritual transformation, our so-called love is limited to those who
look, feel, act like ourselves, and somehow manage to stay in our good
grace. We have onlty to read the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7)
to see what Jesus thought of our feeble efforts at love. The Lord knew this
and made provision for it.
Deuteronomy 30:6 And the LORD thy
God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy
God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest
live.
God set the example and poured out
His love for us and upon us at the cross.
1 John 3:16 Hereby perceive we the
love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our
lives for the brethren.
When we obey the gospel and accept
the sacrifice of Jesus, and are filled with His Spirit, we are different
creatures. We are capable of truly loving in the biblical
sense.
Romans 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is
shed
abroad in our hearts by the
Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
We then put the love of God in action
and love others fervently.
1 Peter 1:22 Seeing ye have
purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love
of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart
fervently:
