Acts 1:3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

Those who oppose Christianity, try to paint the ressurection as a myth. The eyewitness accounts presented by the apostles and disciples would make an iron-clad case to the contrary, in any court of law. Consider just a few points:

  • Luke wrote a detailed account of all that Jesus said and did,  based on the reports of eyewitnesses. None of his contemporaries ever disputed his writings ( Luke 1:1-2) .
  • Peter stated that they had not followed cunningly devised fables but were eyewitnesses of His majesty (II Peter 1:16). John said that they had been with Him and had seen and touched Him ( I John 1:1). Paul said that Jesus was seen of over 500 witnesses who were still alive at the time of his writings (I Cor. 15:6), none of whom ever disputed the teachings of the ressurection.
  • The Jewish leaders were never able to produce His body.
  • Thomas proclaimed Him as "my Lord and my God" (John 20:28). He stood with the rest of the apostles on the day of Pentecost and confronted those who had crucified Jesus with the message, "He has risen!" The crowd didn't dispute it, their response was simply, "What must we do?" ( Acts 2:37-39).

Tradition tells us that Thomas was martyred in India and that all of the apostles except John were martyred also. Not exactly something you do, unless you have concrete evidence on which to base your convictions.

The old hymn of the church, He Lives, states it well, "You ask me how I know He Lives? He lives within my heart."

Have a joyous Ressurection Sunday!

Keep Looking Up!
