About-Him.Com Devotional 12-24-2005
Http://About-Him.Com/ My Thoughts on the Life of Christ, from His Baptism to His Ascension. We first ran the devotional below for Christmas 2002. We find it still fitting and hope that you do also. Isaiah 64:1 ¶ Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence, About 700 years before the birth of Christ, the prophet was longing for a manifestation of God's power and presence. He confessed in the previous chapter that Israel was so sinful that Abraham and Jacob would probably not even acknowledge them as their children. He cries out, Lord you are our father and redeemer and your name is from everlasting. If only Lord, you could just rend the heavens and come down and show your power, as you did at Sinai. He did come down my friend. The skies were rent when the heavenly host announced His birth. He came to a humble manger in the insignificant village of Bethlehem, as prophesied by the prophet Micah talked about (Micah 5:2). The Eternal One came as a Saviour, as Messiah, as King and as Deliverer. He who is the Bread of Life (John 6:35) was born in Bethlehem, the house of Bread. The eternal Word had taken flesh and shown Himself as the only begotten Son of God (John 1:1,14). You, like the prophet, may feel that the skies are shut up against you. You may feel that you are just too sinful for God to hear you. Look up my friend, He came to seek and save you. His ear is ever inclined to your smallest cry. He loves you. He came into the world for you. He died for you. He arose and ascended for you. He's listening for your simple cry, "Lord, hear my prayer, Lord forgive my sin. Lord, let me walk in your glory as in former years. Lift your voice to Him, you won't be disappointed. Tune your ear and listen to the angels. Rejoice my friend, your prayers are answered. A Saviour, Christ the Lord is born. You won't find Him in the manger, you'll find Him on the throne. He's listening for you, just you. Luke 2: 8 ¶ And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. 10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. 12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. An 80 year old woman was arrested for shop lifting. When she went before the judge
he asked her, "What did you steal?" She replied, "a can of peaches."
The judge asked her why she had stolen them and she replied that she was hungry. The judge then asked her how many peaches were in the can. She replied 6. The judge then said, "I will give you 6 days in jail." Before the judge could actually pronounce the punishment the woman's husband spoke up and asked the judge if he could say something. The judge said, "What is it?" The husband said, "She also stole a can of peas." Keep Looking Up! Don and Marie Spooner About Him!
