Psalms 20 was written at a time Israel was threatened by her enemies. The Syrians and others had extensive calvary and chariots, which God had forbidden Israel to have (Deut. 17:16). He wanted them to rely solely on Him. He would fight the battles for them. Psalms 20:7b - but we will remember the name of the LORD our God. Yes, we remember the One who spoke to Moses from the burning bush and proclaimed His Name as “I AM THAT I AM,” stating that this is my name forever and my memorial to all generations (Ex. 3:14-15). I AM THAT I AM, I exist because I choose to exist. I will become what I will become. We remember the various ways that God revealed His name to His people. In Genesis 22:13 & 14, He is Jehovah Jireh “I AM your Provider.”In Exodus 15:26, He is Jehovah Rapha “I AM your Healing.” In Exodus 17:8 15, He is Jehovah Nissi “I AM your Banner.” In Judges 6:24, He is Jehovah Shalom “I AM your Peace.” In Psalms 23:1, He is Jehova Ra-ah “I AM your Shepherd.” In Jeremiah 23:6, He is Jehovah Tsidkenu “I AM your Righteousness.” In Ezekiel 48:35, He is Jehovah Shammah “I AM Present (with you).” We read in II Chronicles 20 of another time that Judah was threatened, by superior enemies i.e. Moab ,Ammon and Mt. Seir. King Jehoshaphat prayed fervently to the Lord from the temple, stating that this was the place where His name resided. He recalled Israel’s deliverance from Egypt and the many battles they had won against superior forces, because the Lord had fought the battle for them. The Spirit of the Lord came upon one of the Levites who cried out, “Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.” Their would be no need to fight, The Lord would fight the battle for them. On the next day , singers were appointed to lead the ranks into battle. Can you imagine what the opposing army may have thought, “We’ve about to annihilate these crazy people and here they come, singing and praising their God. This should be easy pickings today.” The Lord caused confusion between Moab and Ammon who turned upon the army from Mt Seir. The end result: they decimated each other and Judah collected the spoil. All because they remembered and called upon the name of the Lord. So, what enemy are we facing today. Do we need provision? The Lord is our provider (Mt. 6:25). Do we need healing, The Lord is our healer (Ex. 15:26, Isa 53:5; I Peter 2:24). Do we need someone to fight the battle for us? The Lord is our banner, we fight in the power of His might (Eph. 6:10). Do we need peace? The Lord is our peace and He gave us a peace beyond comprehension (John 14:27). Do we need a shepherd? The Lord is our Shepherd (John 10:11,14). Do we need the righteousness of God. The Lord gave us his righteousness when we believed on Christ Jesus (Romans 3:22). Do we long for His presence? He has promised to never leave us or forsake us (Mt. 28:20; Heb. 13:5). As we look at the events that are unfolding before our eyes daily, we could easily be overwhelmed. But no, we have been bought and paid for by the blood of Jesus and have taken His name upon ourselves. We need not fear. May we be like Judah and reflect upon the glory and majesty of the name of Jesus, the name above every name (Php. 2:9). When we do the things of this world will dim and the windows of heaven will open wide. Free Ebooks That You Can Download.
