http://about-him.com/ Could These Be the Last Days? II Timothy 3:1 ¶ This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. Do you recognize anything from the list above that we don’t see everyday in our present age? I didn’t think so. Perhaps it’s fair to suggest that these may indeed be the last days. It’s easy to look at this list and feel that none of it applies to me. However, verse 5 tells me that there will be some who have a form of godliness, but deny the power “thereof.” The word “thereof” suggests to me that there must be power in whatever form of godliness these folks are espousing. There are several things that contain the power of God, such as His Word, His Name, His Blood and His Spirit. Thus this is not talking of infidels or new agers, for there is no power in anything that they preach. It is obviously talking of those who confess the Word, the Name, the Blood of Jesus, and the infilling of His Spirit, as a form or ritual without applying the power that these things contain to their lives. I need not look to the church down the street and point fingers. I need to examine my own heart to be sure that none of this applies to me. I used to debate endtime theology ad nauseam, however I’ve decided that it is an exercise in futility to do so. We all know that Jesus is coming again but we don’t seem to hear it preached like we did in years past. Hopefully we won’t be like the man in Luke 12:45-46 who said in effect, “My Lord delays His coming so I’ll do just whatever suits me.” Well, His Master came when he wasn’t looking and appointed him his portion with the unbelievers. We can debate our pre, mid or post tribulation theories endlessly, but the simple fact is that some of us will be wrong. Jesus said that He would be coming at the hour when we weren’t expecting Him. It may be the second watch or maybe the third (That could easily be compared to pre mid or post trib). Our obligation is to be waiting (Luke 12:36) watching (luke 12:37) and so doing (Luke 12:43). It is easy to despair when we see the things that are happening around us, but we need to remember that where sin abounds, grace abounds all the more (Romans 5:20). Perhaps we should consider the words of Mordecai in Esther 4:14, “and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Jesus said that we are the light of the world. The world is sorely in need of our light. We must utilize the abounding and enabling grace of the Holy Ghost to witness to a lost and dying world. Matthewt 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Matthewt 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Keep Looking Up!
