To Whom Shall We Go?

When Jesus began His ministry, there was an air of excitement throughout the region. Jesus had performed many miracles such as turning water to wine and feeding a crowd of over five thousand. As long as He wasn’t asking for commitment, things were going pretty good. When Jesus asserted His Deity by claiming to be sent of the Father and  being the Bread of Life who  was able to bestow eternal life, many deserted Him. Jesus asked Peter, “Will you go also.”  Peter’s reply is still fitting today.

John 6:68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.

Can we ask ourselves the same question? Lord where can we go? Do we want to actually believe that any of our three presidential contenders have the answers to our most pressing problems? Sorry, as sincere as they “might” be, the problems our world faces are above them.

Remember Isaiah’s encounter with the Lord?

Isaiah 6:1 ¶  In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.

I see some parallels between Uzziah’s Kingdom of Judah and our own country. In the beginning of Uzziah’s reigh, he followed the Lord closely. As the Lord prospered him, he restored the walls of Jerusalem, put down his enemies and greatly expanded the infrastructure of Judah. His kingdom came close to the glories of David and Solomon.  However, he grew proud and arrogant and ignored the instruction of the Lord concerning temple worship. The Lord struck him with leprosy and he lived his remaining days in seclusion (II Chronicles 26). I would assume that at the time of Uzziah’s disobedience, his kingdom began to decline.

Isaiah was a priest who functioned in King Uzziah's court. I’m sure that when his king died, he was filled with anxiety and distress. What do we do now? Just what is our country coming too? Our enemies aregetting ready to strike us? However, when He had a vision of the Lord God Almighty on His heavenly throne, his perspective changed. Certainly he still cared for Judah, but he realized, as we do, that he had a higher citizenship as a citizen of the kingdom of God, (Philippians 3:20 NKJV). Forever after, he was a messenger for the kingdom of God (Isaiah 6:8).

Our country was founded upon godly principals. God’s word was held in the highest regard. God gave us great material blessing and victory over all our enemies. He was honored in our schools and courts of law.  Now we can’t mention His name in schools nor post His commandments in our courtrooms.  As we mentioned last week new age teaching is beginning to influence many. See The Church of Oprah. It will take more than singing God Bless America at a ball game to turn that around.

Today our nation is mired in two wars which are being financed on credit from China of all places. The dollar is plunging and the  stock market has declined greatly. People are being forced our of their homes and  facing mass unemployment. Iran is rattling it’s sabers and threatening to eliminate the nation of Israel. They are poised to extend there influence and domination over the whole middle east region. With Iran  enriching uranium the  threat of nuclear attack is increasing.

I believe that the restraining power of the Holy Ghost has kept us from nuclear attack, so far (2 Thessalonians 2:7). In 1962 Russia had missiles pointed at us from Florida. Rogue nations such as N. Korea now have these weapons. When God  lifts His Spirit, the anti-Christ will be revealed and the forces of hell unleashed. Unfortunately it will be to late to cry out to God then. Today is the day of salvation.

Naturally I’m concerned about all of these things and feel for those who are affected by them.  However, I don’t live in fear, because I have placed my confidence in our great God and Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ (Titus 2:13). He told us what to expect before His coming and He told us to look up and rejoice because when we see the prophesies being fulfilled, we know that our redemption is drawing nigh (Luke 21:28).

Friend, have you made your peace with God by obeying the gospel of Jesus Christ? If you die in the next instant, are you certain that you are covered by His blood and can appear before His throne without condemnation? If you have any doubt whatsoever, His ear is inclined to you, waiting for your call (Isaiah 59:1). He is not willing that any should perish but that all come to repentance (John 3:16-21;II Peter 3:9).

Back to our three candidates: All three have a plan, but I’ve not heard any of them say that they are seeking the face of God for guidance.

So What is the Answer?

Psalms 20:7 Some [trust] in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.

II Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
