Two Foundations
Jesus told us the story of two men who built new houses: Both may have been pleasing to the eye and had the best exterior material with no obvious defects. However, there was a big difference in their preparation. The wise man built his house upon the rock. Matthew 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. The Foolish Man built his house upon the sand. Matthew 7:26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. Everything looked good, until the storm came. The wise man had properly prepared his foundation. He had dug down and built his house on the solid rock. The foolish man cut corners and no doubt saved money and had his house finished quicker. He may have been having a house warming party, while the other guy was still digging his foundation. All was well until the storms and flood came. One house stood and the other was destroyed. We can rest assured that sooner or later, storms will enter our lives. In fact we have only to read the newspaper to see that Satan is coming against this world like a flood. Of course we have the promise that when He does so, the Lord will raise a standard against him (Isaiah 59:19). The winds of war are blowing in the mid-east as we see the prophesies concerning Israel being fulfilled. The political winds are blowing, setting the stage for the anti-Christ. So we had better be checking our foundation, wouldn’t you say (I Corinthians 3:11). The Word of God is the proper foundation. Jesus likened the wise man to the one who had not only heard His sayings, but who did them. He said that we were to enter strait gate and walk on the narrow way, and that not everybody who shouted, “Lord, Lord,” would be entering the kingdom. Only those who did the will of God according to His word (Matthew 7:13-15,21). Jesus said to beware of false prophets who looked like sheep but were actually ravening wolves (Matthew 7:15). They will offer you an easy way to heaven: Recite a prayer or affirm our creed. Well, that creed or prayer had best be from the heart, or it is meaningless. Others will offer God’s blessing, if we only sow some "seed money," to prime God’s pump and get the ball rolling. Some are built on the foundation of emotion, good music and fellowship. We all like to feel good, but feel good and God’s word don’t always coincide. The music will stop sooner or later and the fellowship can end quickly. When the shout and the dance are over, we need something to stand on. We need the word of God. Jesus is our Rock. All else is shifting sand. Jesus is the Rock that followed Israel in the desert (I Corinthians 10:4). Moses, referring to the pagan world said, “Their rock isn’t like our Rock ( Deuteronomy 32:31).” He is the Rock that was hewn out of the mountain, tearing down the kingdoms of this world (Daniel 2:45). He told Peter that He would build His church upon this Rock and that the gates of hell could not prevail against it (Matthew 16:18). Ephesians 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; Jesus said that His words were spirit and life (John 6:63) and that they would stand even when heaven and earth had passed away (Mark 13:31). Life is too short and eternity is too near to be careless with our eternal destiny (Luke 12:20). May we all examine our selves to see if the house we are building will stand up against the wind and flood. Let us ask the Lord to help us check our foundation and to see that we are building absolutely upon God’s word and rejecting all else. In About-Him

Two friends rented a boat and fished in a lake every day. One day they caught 30 fish. One
guy said to his friend, "Mark this spot so that we can come back here again tomorrow."
The next day, when they were driving to rent the boat, the same guy asked his friend, "Did you mark that spot?" His friend replied, "Yeah, I put a big 'X' on the bottom of the boat." The first one said, "You stupid idiot! What if we don't get that same boat today?"; Somebody Has Said
