John coupled repentance and water baptism.
Mark 1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance
for the remission of sins.
Those who rejected John's baptism, rejected the counsel of God.
Luke 7:30 But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against
themselves, being not baptized of him.

Water baptism is comparable to Old Testament circumcision.
Colossians 2:
11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through
the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
The man who refused circumcision was cut off from the covenant
Genesis 17:14 And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin
is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath
broken my covenant.

Jesus commanded water baptism.
Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name
of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Peter and the apostles estaslished that the baptismal name was Jesus.
Acts 2:
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in
the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive
the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Phillip preached Jesus to the Samaitans and they responded by being baptised.
Acts 8:
12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning
the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men
and women.
They were baptised in the name of Jesus
Acts 8:
16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name
of the Lord Jesus.)

The eunuch responded to the gospel by requesting water baptism.
Acts 8:36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the
water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

The Phillipian jailer inquired of salvation.
Acts 16:
30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved,
and thy house.
After instruction in the Word of God the jailer was immediately baptised.
Acts 16:32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their
stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.

Peter commanded the household of Cornelius to be baptised in the name
of the Lord.
Acts 10:48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord.
Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
Ananais told Paul to be baptised without delay.
Acts 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy
sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
The original Ephesian believers were baptised in the name of Jesus.
Acts 19:5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the
Lord Jesus.

Paul declared to the Romans that they were joined with Christ in His death
by water baptism.
Romans 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were
baptized into his death?
He commended the Romans for obeying the doctrine which obviously included water baptism.
Romans 6:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have
obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

In Titus, baptism is called the washing of regeneration.
Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according
to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of
the Holy Ghost;
Peter said we were saved by baptism.
1 Peter 3:21 ΒΆ The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us
(not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good
conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
